I was once told by a physics teacher that he believed the answer to this question is no because sound is the translation of sound waves into electric signals that are then interpreted by your brain into what we hear as sound. If there is no one there to hear it then there are sound waves being produced but there is no one there to interpret those sound waves into sound.
