October Weekly Features

Every week, I feature a new fan fiction story on my profile page. Drop by and check them out!
Friends in High PlacesStars reflected off the windows of the tiny spacecraft drifting high over the deserts of Peru. Not for the first time, the little green disc pondered how lonely it was in the vacuum of space. There was nothing up here to keep it company but the hopelessly dull earth satellites, which were never rich on conversation.
Cosmos gave a little sigh, which was lost to the endless recesses of his namesake, and began to unfold his round little body into its only marginally less rotund robot shape. He took a moment to reflect bitterly on the silence of his surroundings. Space ate sound. Ate it whole, and left no scraps. Cosmos missed hearing the sound of his transformation cog. It had always had a calming effect on him. That was the part that his autobot brothers had simply failed to grasp entirely: the horrible silence. When he had complained to the others of the torturous quiet of his isolation, Bumblebee had, in a misguided gesture of charity, purchased a portable music player for him. Cosmos

Soundwave could remember a time when he would be bombarded with emotions. From all directions, they would mute his calm demeanor: anticipation, anger, enthusiasm, disinterest, curiosity.
    He felt nothing now.
Sometimes, he would call up old video files of little frames running around his feet, lacking any concern for being stepped on as they fought with one another for playful dominance and snapping out a snide remark, or even tinier frames that would flutter around his head and land on his shoulders, huddling down against him in subtle affection.
He looked down and only saw the bleak, black floor beneath his feet.

A Day in the LibraryHarry sucked on the end of his quill as his eyes roved the book laying on the table in front of him: the ornate lettering on the aged parchment slipped past his concentration as if through a broken net. For one thing, the library's warm stuffy atmosphere was making him sleepy. And for another, his hand was emitting a dull ache that made it even harder to focus; his repeated detentions with Umbridge had reopened the cuts on his knuckles so frequently that the pain was now a constant thrumming on his consciousness.
"Maybe this will help," Hermione's voice announced, breaking him from his daze and bringing him back to his surroundings. The dusty desk piled high with books, the scattered boxes of half-eaten sweets, and his two best friends in the world - plus the Weasley twins.
"Wh-what'll help?" Ron snorted. "Help wif' what?" He had obviously just been jerked out of a quiet nap, as evidence by the look of his disheveled hair and the welt of backwards letters where his cheek had been lying

Last month, I asked, "What are your favorite topics/genres to write about? To read? Are they the same and, if not, why?"

Here are your replies:
:iconcutecat213:

My favorite subjects are usually Angst, Hurt\Comfort, and Romance. Seeing characters start someplace bad and rise above their troubles with the help and love of someone they care about make me feel warm and fluffy and happy even when I'm having a bad day, being ignored, or feeling lonesome myself. When I read enough of them, I get feel as if I'm filled up with those hopes and dreams; then I put on my favorite music and let it all spill from my fingertips. Hope my stuff has the same effect for others who need some warm and fuzzy on their bad days.

Here is my reply:
:iconsingingflames:

I tend to read most genres, as long as they're well-written. However, I prefer to write humor. I enjoy bringing my readers some enjoyment. While I do love humor, I like to add an undertone of seriousness to my stories. I feel it makes them more realistic, no matter how "out there" the subject may be.

Believe it or not, but I originally joined deviantART merely to archive some old sketches when I deleted a Photobucket account. I had no intentions of actually using the site. But within the first day I was getting favorites and comments, and for once on a social network I didn't feel ignored. On top of that, everyone was so encouraging that I even started drawing again—I hadn't drawn in years prior to that, so it was quite motivating.

Now I'm actively drawing and learning more about artwork, and having a good old time with the community! I've met great friends here, found some wonderful artists with exceptional artwork, and it's been a lot of fun! I honestly feel welcomed, and I love that.
