Final Mission"Get those ODST's out of here! I've got it covered. Go!" I shout to the remnant of my squad who lingers behind me. "Jackson..." Parkson pleads. "Just go!" I roar, firing off at the Covenant soldiers, keeping them at bay. 211 is down, Parkson is bleeding. There is more then one life on the line. And I need to make sure they get back to safety. Save one life and lose hundreds? Or sacrifice one life and save just as much?
I don't turn as the Pelican lands, thudding roughly onto the battle-scarred cement. I only pay attention to the looming threat of the Covenant soldiers pressing closer and closer with each growing minute. They're getting testy, testing our barricades and daring closer then ever before.
Plasma bullets tear across the gap and pelt my armor, melting it in different places. My shields are down and I am bleeding in more then one place. Most of the places severe bleeding takes place. A bad plasma burn rips at my skin, just beneath the ribs. I

First Contact (Pokemon Omega Ruby)Note: This piece contains spoilers for the Delta Episode of Pokemon: Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. It also contains spoilers for the main plot of Omega Ruby, and an OC trainer inspired by the author's choices in her copy of the game. Deal with it or get out.
Convection seared her, eyes burning, and she screamed as the heat engulfed her. The molten mess gave way to faint rocky brown walls and a blur of orange moving toward her scale model of Castelia. The burning pain remained a moment as reality set in.
“Emyr! It's ok! No one's here, unless you heard the doorbell!”
It turned its head to look at Carly, torso still leaned forward, helical arms still reaching into the entry.
“I was screaming because I had a nightmare.”
It stared at her with blank black eyes, unmoving.
“When humans sleep, we dream. We see things that aren't necessarily real.”
It lowered its arms and hovered, closing its eyes for a moment. Then it extended an

She looked even bigger, somehow.
“You’re still alive.”  Oddly, she didn’t sound all that disappointed.  She sounded more like she’d been expecting him to be alive.  He shrugged.
“Sometimes you get lucky.”
“I was hoping it would be someone else this time,” she remarked, tilting her core in such a human way that he couldn’t help but shudder.  For all her insistence on being the indomitable AI, her mimicry of human behaviours was disturbing.  It was if she were mocking him in his powerlessness, as if he was so much smaller than her for being human rather than acting like one.
Warcraft: Return of the Lich King - Prologue    His eyes opened and the ice began to crack. Bolvar Fordragon awoke from his long slumber, his eyes flaring like two suns. The ice completely crumbled down and all that was left was the frozen throne.
“There must always be...a Lich King.”

He exhaled. White puffs escaped his mouth and soon after vanished.
“Fordragon…," a voice whispered. “Rise from your throne and take back what once was yours.”
Fragmented memories of the previous Lich King flooded his head. “Be gone, spirit. I will not be your puppet.”
“Fool!” the voice snapped and all of Icecrown shook. “You cannot stand idly by any longer! He is coming.” An image of burning demonic eyes came and went.
Bolvar rose and stepped away from the frozen throne onto the cold platform below. Icy winds blew past him and snow whirl

Wrong Place, Wrong TimeMy panicked breathing rung in my ears as I charged across the rooftops. The clay tile slats crunched or clinked under my converse-clad feet as I ran from my pursuer as fast as I could.
It was a mistake, a simple mistake. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time, stepped into the wrong doorway, and now I find myself running across the rooftops of Renaissance Florence, Italy. Normally, I would have been really thrilled to be in this time period and in this country, since I was a history junkie and I had always wanted to go to Italy (and because I had a college assignment due), but I had never wanted to come here just to be chased down by a case of paranoia that came in the form of a man wearing white and red garments.
I have a feeling that time travellers were never welcome in any century - I had watched enough time travel shows where the travellers were captured by some kind of organization and either killed or stored away for the rest of their existences to know that. M
One Shot: Late Nights - DanteStella leaned forward, rubbing her eyes. Staring at a computer screen for hours on end had strained them, especially so in the darkness. She was often up late, alone; trying to gain any information she could to help Vergil and his cause. She had come to align herself with his side vehemently if only to ensure no one had to suffer the way she had.
A heavy sigh left her. Stella leaned forward, placing her elbows on her desk. Numbers, texts, and codes alike ran on her screen though she paid them little mind. Breaking through codes was difficult enough and it kept her up late at night.
She caught herself nodding off. Shaking her head, she tried to keep herself from falling asleep. She needed to finish all of this before she could manage any sleep. That was, if she could sleep at all. Some nights, even days, she had trouble slipping off into a deep slumber.
The warehouse was quiet. Even those who normally stayed up late had wandered off to bed, fully aware they needed some sleep. Stella som
